Siddhartha Section 1 Reading blog

When I first started reading Siddhartha, I was a little bit confused. To understand the book, you have to very closely read even the first page, because the author gives a whole lot of information right there. It seems as if the author left many clues for you upon the first part of the book, which will at first cause confusion, but will later unfold big mysteries throughout the entire book. I was completely relieved when we close read it with the entire class and I actually understood what I had read.

As soon as I understood who Siddhartha was and what he was doing, I kept on reading at ease. Siddhartha´s desire to find his inner peace and his meditation rituals reminded me and made me think of  my father. He suffers from a brain disease which is caused by stress. The disease causes the veins in the brain to stop the fluidness of the blood and clog it. Later on, the veins erupt and he suffers from internal bleeding. On my first day of school, my dad suffered one of these attacks and was rushed out of the country and lasted in a hospital in Florida for a month. He is now fine, but he has to work hard so it doesn't happen again. My father was able to relax not only himself but the veins in his brain through the art of meditation, which he practices every morning. It consists of him imagining a massage for the veins and releasing the blood pressure, letting the blood flow smoothly. I connected this to Siddhartha because in a way, my father and him are trying to reach their inner peace (dad: physically, Siddhartha: emotionally). After reading this section and getting a chance to understand it, I think Im really going to enjoy the book.
